Did you know?: Pico Turquino is situated next to the Caribbean Sea, allowing a Sea to Summit Traverse with spectacular views once at the top. At the top is a bust of Jose Marti, a Cuban national hero known for his role in liberating Cuba. The mountain is also located within the Pico Turquino National Park, home of Fidel’s rebel headquarters, known as La Comandancia de la Plata. Here you can see Fidel’s house and the small hut that Che Guevara used as a hospital. This hike is not for the faint of heart, it is steep and depending on the weather and conditions can be muddy and slippery.
